Ubuntu GamePack 22.04 release - platforms for running games
Ubuntu GamePack 22.04 distribution is available for download - an operating system that includes tools and means to guarantee the start of more than 90 thousand games, both specially designed for Linux and developed for Windows, DOS, various game consoles Sega, Nintendo, PSP, Sony PlayStation, ZX Spectrum and many others.
The distribution is based on the operating system Ubuntu*Pack 22.04 (Like Win), which by default offers a Windows 10-style interface.
The distribution includes:
- game management and delivery systems: Steam (11.389), Lutris (7.211), Itch (88,656), Game Jolt;
- program for running classic adventure and role-playing games ScummVM (491);
- launch tools for games developed for the Windows platform: PlayOnLinux (1.338) and CrossOver Linux (19,899);
- DOSBox (3.929) utility - to run old games developed for the DOS platform;
- the distribution is already connected to the repositories with a large collection of Linux games of various genres: UALinux, SNAP, Flatpak;
- Oracle Java 1.8 installed;
- included libraries to support Direct3D 9 / 10 / 11 / 12 - DXVK;
- WINE (8.567) and utilities for its configuration and optimization - q4wine and winetricks;
- PortProton – easy and convenient launch of Windows games with flexible settings for advanced users;
- a tool for launching Windows games in various containers - WINE Launcher;
- GameMode optimizer that changes Linux settings in the background to improve game performance.
- Twitch Client - viewing game videos and streaming (all kinds of e-sports tournaments/competitions and other streams from ordinary players).
What's new regarding the previous build based on 20.04:
- the distribution is compiled on the Ubuntu*Pack 22.04 (Like Win);
- includes all updates until March 2024;
- system Linux kernel 6.5;
- added Direct3D 12 libraries - DXVK;
- added PortProton - easy and convenient launch of Windows games.
